sibenik area

Šibenik is the oldest Croatian town on the Adriatic coast. It is also called Krešimir's town, since it was the residence of King Petar Krešimir IV, the most important ruler of the ancient Croatian state. The first written mention of Šibenik was found in King Krešimir's papers dating from 1066 A.D.

We warmly recommend a sightseeing trip to the ancient Dalmatian town of Šibenik, only 10 km from Zaboric.

Šibenik is located in a large bay where the Krka river meets the sea. It grew from an old Croatian fort near the fortress of St. Michael, which still overlooks the town. Apart from St. Michael's, the town is surrounded by three other fortresses: St. Nicholas', St.John's and Šubićevac.

Its narrow winding streets, stony houses, many staircases and the remains of the city walls give Šibenik that romantic Mediterranean atmosphere. The St. Jacob's Cathedral is the most famous building in Šibenik. The erection of the cathedral took over a hundred years. It was made according to sketches by Juraj Dalmatian, a renowned master builder from Zadar. Made of stone exclusively, its unique constructions were both bold and unusual for that time..

Primosten is a small historic town built on the island near the coast, known for its indigenous stone houses, churches, the narrow streets of the Mediterranean style, with countless bays and islands.
Today, Primošten is known for its production of olive oil and wine. Primošten vineyards of Babić sort incurred in the "barren land" in stone (Primošten's lace), and with miles of stone walls, are ode to the human work and persistence. Their picture is exhibited in the headquarters building of the United Nations in New York. Vines in this region are grown from 8th century B.C., when vineyards were planted by Illyrians and Liburnians. Tradition was continued by the Greeks and Romans, and from the 7th century, also by Croats.
Modern Primošten is teeming with vivid shops, small shops and souvenir shops scattered around the narrow cobbled streets, and the summer atmosphere is full of sports and entertainment contents. Of course, we will not forget Aurora club, one of the largest and finest and most famous discotheques on the Adriatic coast and beyond.

Vodice is lively city well known for its rich and diverse night life, specially during the summer season, when different cultural-entertaining programmes take place under the name of "Vodicko ljeto". On those days the restaurants, hotels, night clubs ( the most famose is the open-aired Hacienda, among the most happening night clubs in Croatia) , city squares and streets are full of life, every step has a different thing going on. Concerts, plays, exhibitions, performances of folklore groups, Dalmatian ensambles take turns day by day, night by night. “Beauty boats” often come to port of Vodice during the summer; these are entertaining boats that are hosted by many musicians and celebrities. As not so many places on the Adriatic, Vodice is an exciting place by day and by night. Rich in spirit it always offers something new and out of the ordinary. It has “that certain something”, that nobody can show you or describe to you. The traditional “ Vodicka fešta” takes place in August and it represents a good time and fun for everybody, without exceptions and limitations.
